Who is Donald Artis??

44 Years of Experience

Constable for nearly 28 years; 16 years of service that includes Lancaster TX and Methodist Health Police Departments, before retiring after 44 years in law enforcement. Currently working as a Deputy Constable in Tarrant County.

Recognition and Achievements

Licensed as a Peace Officer since 1981, currently holds a Master Peace Officer Certificate

First African-American police officer in Lancaster TX.

contributing citizens by furthering their education.



It was my privilege to serve the citizens of Dallas County as a Deputy Constable for nearly 28 years, before my retirement after 44 years in law enforcement. In 2014, I came out of retirement to accept an appointment as a Tarrant County Deputy Constable.

The work of a Constable,in coordination with Justices of the Peace, touches your life in many ways. I have the hands on, in the street experience needed to ensure the office of Constable for Precinct 4 operates in the most efficient and professional manner possible.

The different communities we serve every day deserve nothing less!

  • 1948 - Born in Chicago, orphaned and separated from his siblings at the age of 3
  • 1968 - Moved to North Texas in order to attend Bishop College
  • 1971 - Rather than complete his studies towards a degree, he joined the Ennis TX Police Department
  • 1974 - First African-American police officer in Lancaster TX
  • 1981 - Licensed as a Peace Officer, currently holds a Masters Peace Officer Certification
  • Mr. Artis and his wife, Dorothy, were Foster Parents to countless children over the past 20 years. They continue to encourage all young adults in the community to become contributing citizens by furthering their education beyond high school.
